Disgusting orange man-baby (and US President-elect) Donald Trump recently opened one of his repulsively gaudy hotels on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC; in fact, he roped the hopelessly compliant/complicit Washington press corps into his publicity scheme, claiming a promotional appearance would be a campaign press conference in order to get them to cover it live (they did). Now, though, several Democratic members of Congress have revealed that the General Services Administration believes that Trump will be in violation of the hotel’s lease agreement the minute he’s sworn in as President, unless he has divested all ownership in the hotel before then.
Politico reports that Representatives Elijah Cummings of Maryland, Peter DeFazio of Oregon, Gerald Connolly of Virginia, and Andre Carson of Indiana have written a letter stating in part, “The Deputy Commissioner informed our staff that GSA assesses that Mr. Trump will be in breach of the lease agreement the moment he takes office on January 20, 2017, unless he fully divests himself of all financial interests in the lease for the Washington D.C. hotel. The Deputy Commissioner made clear that Mr. Trump must divest himself not only of managerial control, but of all ownership interest as well.”
Section 37.19 of the lease agreement states, “No member or delegate to Congress, or elected official of the Government of the United States…shall be admitted to any share or part of this Lease, or to any benefit that may arise therefrom.”
Trump is refusing to address this blatant ethical violation publicly; he’s already postponed a planned announcement regarding it once. Don’t let him get away with refusing to divest himself of his interest in this property! It’s bad enough it exists; to have him scooping up money in his grotesque baby hands while nominally serving as President is too much. If you agree that this cannot be allowed to proceed, share this story on Facebook and spread the word!
