Once again, corrupt popular vote loser Donald Trump is lying about events in order to take credit for things, before he’s even seized power!
According to the New York Times, the orange man-baby claimed, when speaking to reporters outside his gaudy Florida compound, that he had convinced Sprint to add 5,000 jobs in the US. “I was just called by the head people at Sprint, and they are going to be bringing 5,000 jobs back to the United States,” Trump lied. “They have taken them from other countries. They are bringing them back to the United States.”
As is to be expected with Trump, this statement was 100% false.
The jobs are actually part of a $50 billion investment by SoftBank, the Japanese bank that owns a controlling stake in Sprint; this will ultimately create 50,000 jobs, but that investment plan was announced weeks ago. And the plan predated the election, anyway; it would have happened under a President Clinton, too.
The real objective here, for Sprint, is to merge with T-Mobile. The Obama administration hasn’t been too excited by that idea, but the Japanese think the imbecilic President-elect will be open to approving the deal. So it’s likely that someone at Sprint called Trump to spin him a flattering tale of how he’d “brought jobs back to America,” and because he’s as stupid as he is corrupt, he fell for it.
